How does Jon Bernthal and Friends feel about Netflix’s Cancellation of Punisher?

I’m still sad over the cancellation of Marvel’s The Punisher after 2 short, but sweet seasons still streaming on Netflix at this time. A lot of people are feeling the same way. They’re still upset over Netflix’s cancellation of Daredevil as well. This prompted the formation of the #SaveDaredevil campaign which is still in full swing and are gaining a whole lot of support from scores of people worldwide. We all want Daredevil and Punisher back with new Seasons, same cast and crew, writers, producers, and musicians that made the shows a phenomenal success.

Jon Bernthal, the definitive Punisher, along with Jason R Moore (Curtis Hoyle) and Josh Stewart (Mad Preacher John Pilgrim) are not very happy about the cancellations, either. But they are taking this in stride and has no hard feelings for Netflix’s decision to cancel the shows. Talking to a group of people at last weekend’s Fan Fest Chicago event, Jon (The Punisher), Josh, and Jason talked about how they are taking all this in stride.

“The way this business is, you fall in love with something, and they take it from you. You know what I mean? So it’s just the nature of it, it’s the cycle of it. It sucks, but what can you do?”

Josh Stewart

A lot of people feel exactly what Josh feels. It totally sucks when Netflix decides to axe incredibly popular shows such as the remake of One Day at a Time and all the Defender and Punisher shows while keeping junk shows on the air such as Friends.

“I think that’s right. I think in this business, you gotta be grateful for what you got, that you had the opportunity to do it, you had an opportunity to work with people you love and respect. And you gotta kinda leave it at that. A lot of these decisions about what goes out there, those decisions happen in rooms that we’re definitely not invited to [laughs]. And the cool thing about the way stuff is now, it’s not going anywhere, it’s right there on Netflix. It’s there forever.”

Jon Bernthal

As Dr. Seuss would say, “Don’t be sad that it’s over, be happy that it happened.” So true. We should be happy that Marvel Studios have overcome odds to create a series of Emmy-Award worthy shows of high quality entertainment made exclusively for online streaming entertainment such as Daredevil, The Punisher, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. But we are still sad that the shows are canceled, but that doesn’t mean they should be canceled forever.

Hulu has stated that they will pick up either a few or all 5 former Netflix shows and renew each of them for new seasons. There is a good chance that Disney+ will pick up the Defender shows, too. Just as they did with The Simpsons when they bought the rights to 21st Century Fox not too long ago. Other streaming and cable TV networks should take up the offer, as well.
